<h1>Stop Criticizing Yourself</h1>
<p>Has someone has ever caused you emotional pain with careless, mean or sarcastic remarks? What follows are some practical ideas to avoid that sort of pain in the future – and to also make sure that “someone” is not your own self.</p>
<p>Of course criticism can be a positive thing at times – and we must be able process this kind of feedback if we want to progress in our lives. Without some form of feedback it would be hard to improve our performance or behaviors.</p>
<p>But criticism can also inflict pain! It can cut very deep – and even stay with us for our lifetime. Depending upon how well you handle it, criticism has the potential to put serious limits on your life – OR to take you forward into higher levels of personal performance.</p>
<p>Sorting it Out <strong><br />
</strong>Let’s start with a sorting technique to separate the facts from the opinions. A fact is something that is somehow provable and can be shown to be true. An opinion is an idea, or someone’s personal interpretation of something. Look at your dog, for example. If you were to say,&#8221; That’s a beautiful dog,&#8221; it would be an opinion.</p>
<p>The underlying fact it that it&#8217;s a dog. Your neighbor might think your dog is ordinary looking, or even ugly. One judgment (It&#8217;s a dog) is objective, and the other (It&#8217;s a beautiful dog) is subjective.</p>
<p>Many times people will state their opinions as fact – while what they are expressing is only their opinion.</p>
<p>I saw someone step on a scale on a TV program and weigh in at 450 pounds. I was alarmed, but he beamed with joy. I had automatically judged him to be seriously overweight. But he revealed that he had lost almost 400 pounds. Wow! My opinion was just that – and his judgment was quite different!</p>
<p>if someone calls you a &#8220;couch potato&#8221; (the term could be a lot more painful), you should decide for yourself if this is a fact or an opinion. Check out how you look. Do you look or act like a &#8220;couch potato?&#8221; No? Then this is just someone’s opinion.</p>
<h2>The Question</h2>
<p>Here’s the really important question! Just whose opinion of you is the most important?</p>
<p>There are periods in life when other peoples’ opinions of us are more important than our own opinion. This especially occurs during our sensitive teenage years. Since we are beginning to take our place as a young man or woman, the opinions of our peer’s often have a huge impact.</p>
<p>Actually that is a natural part of becoming “socialized.” But it&#8217;s one we do want to grow beyond as we become adults. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Sooner or later we have to make a serious decision to have OUR OWN opinion of ourselves be the most important opinion.</span></p>
<p><strong>What’s Your Frame of Reference </strong><strong><br />
</strong>The best way to correct any tendency to judge yourself poorly is to learn to choose your ‘frame of reference’. A ‘frame of reference’ is the criteria by which we judge something, or determine if it is valid.</p>
<p>There are two possible frames of reference: internal and external. Here’s how to understand the two:</p>
<p>Suppose you have completed a task at work. How do you know you’ve done it well? Does your direct supervisor tell you &#8220;Great job!&#8221;– or do you just know without anyone saying so? The first &#8220;frame of reference&#8221; is external, and the second is internal.</p>
<p>Actually neither frame of reference is better than the other – both can have their own importance.</p>
<p>For example, when learning something new, an external frame of reference is very useful. It&#8217;s otherwise difficult to learn anything other than what you already know. That’s why the learning experience is based on external feedback &#8230; until we have enough experience to decide for ourselves what&#8217;s working.</p>
<p>An internal frame of reference has YOU deciding what’s good, bad, or otherwise.</p>
<p>If you have an internal &#8220;feeling&#8221; that you&#8217;re using to judge yourself, this is an internal frame of reference. If you know what you’re doing, that&#8217;s probably appropriate. But if you’re doing something totally new, you may still benefit from some external feedback.</p>
<h3>Dealing Positively With Opinions</h3>
<p>When you are thinking about your self and how you&#8217;re regarded, it’s beneficial to create some solid, positive internal frames of reference.</p>
<p>People with healthy self-esteem operate from a positive internal frame of reference in regard to their personal worth. People with weaker self-esteem operate from an external frame of reference – and are more likely to listen to other people’s opinions of their worth. And in some cases – they actually allow others to totally decide their worth. This is does <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not</span> lead to a positive life experience!</p>
<p><strong>So can you change this? Here are few simple suggestions:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Start by paying attention to what you say to yourself about your own self. If you hear negative self talk YOU are creating a negative internal frame of reference.</li>
<li>Begin to correct this by paying more attention to the things you appreciate about yourself.</li>
<li>Put more focus on what you do well, and realize that none of us are perfect in all aspects of our lives.</li>
<li>Be a little kinder and forgiving of yourself and others.</li>
<li>Forget past pain and judgments, and stop re-creating them by bringing them into the present moment.</li>
<li>Take a course, read a book, or attend a seminar on personal empowerment or <a title="Self Confidence" href="http://www.quantum-self.com/smash_your_limits.htm" target="_blank"><strong>self-esteem.</strong></a></li>

<h1><strong>How Is Your Immunity?</strong></h1>
<p>We humans seem to have a natural aversion to those who are ill.  When we see someone who looks sick, we experience a powerful emotional response to avoid them. A new Canadian study shows that even *seeing* a sick person can boost your immunity to sickness. </p>
<h2>A Natural Immunity Boost</h2>
<p>To for possible changes  in ones&#8217;s immunity, University of British Columbia researchers showed subjects one of two different slide shows—either a slides of people brandishing a gun, or slides of individuals who were obviously sick. To measure any changes in the research subjects immunity,  immediately after they drew a blood sample, exposed each sample to bacteria,  then measured the levels of a natural substance {interleukin-6 (IL-6)} secreted by white blood cells in response to stress or trauma. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a proven indicator of immunity levels.</p>
<p>Although the subjects rated the gun photographs as stressful than the illness images, their subjects blood tests told a different story &#8212; the gun images caused a 7 percent increase in IL-6, levels , but the images of sick people caused a 24 percent increase. Their immunity had obviously been boosted by seeing the images of sick people.</p>
<p>“It makes evolutionary sense that the immune system would respond aggressively only when it’s really needed,” said Mark Schaller, a psychologist and co-author of the study. “If I see a bunch of sick people, maybe a big infection is around, and I better kick my immunity into high gear. Many neurochemicals connect the brain to the immune system.”</p>

<p>Cancer is one of the most dreaded diseases of our time. It strikes anyone of any age, whether you lead a healthy or unhealthy lifestyle; whether you exercise regularly or are a couch potato.</p>
<p>But here’s the shocking truth that most people don’t know: No one actually dies of cancer.</p>
<p>Some people die from complications caused by conventional cancer therapies … but it’s NEVER cancer that kills them.</p>
<p>So what really happens when someone “dies of cancer?” It means their immune system stopped working. It’s rarely the presence of cancer cells or tumors that kill anyone. Cancer cells come and go. We all have cancer cells existing in our body, but those cells usually don’t multiply into the full-blown disease … unless our immune system is compromised.</p>
<p>Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery are NOT the answer. Oncologist Dr. Tullio Simoncini states that according to his polls and questionnaires, “75 percent of doctors say they’d refuse chemotherapy if they had cancer &#8230; because it is NOT a cure, is ineffective and has devastating side effects.”</p>
<p>One medical journal, Clinical Oncology, published the results of a December 2004 study showing that chemotherapy is not a cure, and has a success rate of just over 2 percent for all cancers! That&#8217;s a FAILURE rate of 98%!</p>
<h2>Can Cancer Just &#8220;Go Away?&#8221;</h2>
<p>In November 24, 2008, the New York Times reported that cancer researchers have known for years that it’s possible for some cancers to be cured on their own. There were cses of melanomas and kidney cancers just vanishing spontaneously. Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood tumor, has also been shown to sometimes go away without treatment.</p>
<p><strong>Food for Thought</strong><br />
Metaphysical scientists believe that whatever one focuses on grows. Therefore, when cancer is diagnosed and treated, intense mental focus is centered on the disease, and the cancerous condition may well become exacerbated rather than healed.</p>
<p>New York Times best selling author Gregg Braden, a pioneer in bridging science and spirituality, states: “Everywhere we look, consciousness will put something there for us to see. If you are awake and conscious, you are creating. So, what does it mean when you are trained to look for something you don’t want? What does it mean to keep looking for a lump in a breast?”</p>

The fact remains that the human body is designed to heal itself. BUT the body heals itself automatically ONLY when it’s supplied with everything it needs to do its job.</p>

Don’t try to force something that isn’t happening. Go for the type of inspired, joyful action that comes along with pursuing a goal in true alignment with your dreams. This causes things to flow along easily and without energy-consuming &#8220;efforting.&#8221; </p>
<p>Contrast this to forcing yourself to take an action you really don’t want to take. Most likely this will take you twice as long, and you’ll bump up against obstacles. </p>
<p>Whenever possible swim with the current … not against it. And stick to your goal plan to success. </p>
<p><strong>4. Manage your Stress</strong> <br />
Stress throws us off balance and into an older, less productive portion of our brain. It prepares you to fight or run. But it does not prepare you to successfully achieve a goal (unless that goal is to escape a tiger.) </p>
<p><strong>5. Build your Strengths</strong> <br />
Success comes easier and more quickly when you focus on your strengths, and delegate in those areas where you are less capable. Your natural talents are those things you do so easily and naturally. They contain the seeds of your greatest potential accomplishments. </p>
<p>It’s very important to identify and work on your natural talents and abilities. This is where self knowledge pays off in big dollars and accomplishments. And don’t forget to also your build your mind power! </p>
<p><strong>6. Disarm Your Inner Saboteur <br />
</strong>Fear of failure is the biggest internal fear most people will ever have to face. It is why so many ideas never get beyond the idea stage &#8212; and why most new projects are started, but never finished.</p>
<p>It’s okay to have these feelings, but it is important to identify them for what they are. </p>
<p>Most fears of failure go all the way back to childhood, and are not even accurate for who you are today. Drag them up into the daylight, and take serious action to face them head on. </p>
<p><strong>7. Develop Resilience</strong> <br />
The truth is, you will have setbacks along the way. This is inevitable. The sooner you accept that, the better. Often if you look closely, you will find these setbacks are directly related to your innermost thoughts, fears and beliefs. This is because we create what we focus on, including those things we don&#8217;t want.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t get stopped by these bumps in the road. Learn from them. As you work through them you will become the person you need to be to create your dreams. And along the way, be sure to refine your stress management skills. This is an essential key to resilience! </p>
<p><strong>8. Use the Power of Visualization</strong><br />
The muscles we use to physically take action in our lives begins in the mind. That is why all great golfers, tennis players, basketball players, dancers, etc. visualize themselves performing successfully. </p>
<p>An experiment conducted by Aussie psychologist Alan Richardson reported a 23% performance improvement among people who visualized every day for 20 days. Richardson found that the most effective visualization occurs when you <em>feel </em>and <em>see</em> what you are doing. </p>

<h2>Physical &amp; emotional pain are connected</h2>
<p>You may be a bit surprised to learn that emotional pain triggers the exact brain regions that physical pain lights up.</p>
<p>How do emotions trigger physical sensations? A 2009 study conducted at the University of Arizona and the University of Maryland found that activity in a brain region that regulates emotional reactions (the anterior cingulate cortex) helps explain how an emotional insult can trigger a biological cascade.</p>
<p>During a stressful experience your brain&#8217;s anterior cingulate cortex increases the activity of your Vagus nerve. This huge nerve is the pathway connecting your brain stem to your neck, chest and abdomen.</p>
<p>When this nerve is over stimulated, it can cause pain, abdominal “butterflies,” and even nausea.</p>
<h3>Heartache is not the only way emotional pain and physical pain intersect in our brain.</h3>
<p>Other studies show that even feeling emotional pain on behalf of another person &#8212; that is, having empathy for that person &#8212; can also influence your pain perception. And this effect is NOT limited to humans. A recent paper published in Science Magazine revealed that when a mouse sees its cage mate in agony, that mouse&#8217;s sensitivity to physical pain increases. But when it comes into close contact with a friendly, unharmed mouse, its sensitivity to pain is reduced. </p>
<p>A recent brain scan study of humans supported the finding in mice &#8212; showing that simple acts of social kindness, such as holding hands, can blunt the brain’s response to threats of physical pain, and thus actually lessen the pain.</p>

<h2>How to Manifest Your Intentions</h2>
<p>Now consider a large intention, such as the intention to go to medical school. Between having this idea in your mind initially and fulfilling it are many steps, and these are not all internal at all: raising tuition money, passing exams, gaining admission, etc.</p>
<p>Yet each of these steps depends upon brain/mind operations being invisibly coordinated. You think, move and act using intention. All events take place in the mind field first and then exhibit their outward manifestation.</p>
<p>You can be detached from how things are going to work out because you have left it to the cosmos. Past success and failure don’t matter since each intention is computed afresh, without regard for old conditioning. You are able to be patient about each step, given that timing is worked out perfectly on another level.</p>
<p>Over the months and years of getting to be a doctor, you remain a silent witness as pieces of the process fall into place. Even as you go through the action, the “doing” of it remains impersonal.</p>
<p>On the ego level you may feel disappointment that event A occurred instead of event B, which you expected, but a deeper level you know that B happened for a better reason.</p>
<h3>Your chief responsibility for manifesting was to have the intention in the first place, to remain as sensitive and alert as possible.</h3>
<p>The turning points in life arrive as small signals at first&#8230; and only amplify when you choose to follow them. <p>Stress is an intimate part of our lives today &#8212; there’s no getting around it.</p>
<p>Stress in and of itself is not bad. Stress is to the human condition what tension is to the violin string: too little and the music is dull and raspy; too much and the music is shrill or the string snaps. Excess stress is blamed for many serious physical illnesses ranging from heart disease, early aging, and even Alzheimer’s disease. <strong></strong></p>
<h2>Myth: No symptoms = no stress.</h2>
<p>An absence of symptoms does not mean the absence of stress. In fact, camouflaging symptoms with medications could deprive you of the signals you need to reducing the strain on your body and mind.</p>
<p>Many of us experience symptoms of stress in a very physical way, even though stress is a psychological effect. Feeling anxious, shortness of breath, or simply feeling run down all the time can all be physical signs of stress. Feeling overwhelmed, disorganized and having difficulty concentrating are common mental signs of stress.</p>
<h3>Myth: Only major symptoms of stress require attention.</h3>
<p>This myth assumes that the minor symptoms of stress, like headaches or stomach acid, may be safely ignored. But these minor symptoms of stress are actually early warning signs that your life is getting out of hand, and <a title="get focus" href="http://www.quantum-self.com/quantum-library/life-mastery/want-proven-success-strategies.html" target="_self">that you need to do a better job of managing stress. <strong></strong></a></p>
<h3><strong>Myth: Stress is just all in your head.</strong></h3>
<p>Stress is NOT just imagination – it is what happens to you, it is a psychophysical reaction that occurs in your brain. The resulting chemical and hormonal changes then affect every single organ of your body.<br />
- Forty-three percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress.<br />
- 75 to 90 percent of all physician office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints.<br />
- Stress is linked to the six leading causes of death&#8211;heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.</p>

<p>Some scientists now believe they may have finally discovered the source of empathy. We all read minds, they say. The idea has been slow to gain acceptance, but the evidence is mounting daily. It all has to do with what are now being called mirror neurons. And yes  you DO have them in YOUR mind, and you DO use them to read minds.</p>
<p><strong>Your Mysterious Mirror Neurons</strong><br />
Back in 1996, three neuroscientists were probing the brain of a macaque monkey when they stumbled across a curious cluster of cells in the premotor cortex  an area of the brain that helps us plan our movements.</p>
<p>They found that the interesting cluster of cells fired not only when the monkey performed an action  but also when the monkey saw the same action performed by someone else. The cells basically responded the same way whether the monkey reached out to grasp a peanut, or merely watched as another monkey or a human grabbed a peanut. Because the cells reflected the actions that the monkey observed in others, the neuroscientists named them &#8220;mirror neurons.&#8221;</p>
<p>Later experiments confirmed the existence of mirror neurons in humans  and revealed yet another surprise: In addition to mirroring actions,  the cells also mirrored sensations and emotions. With mirror neurons we are practically in another persons mind, says Marco Iacoboni, neuroscientist at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine.</p>
<p>Scientists are saying  that when we interact with someone, we do more than just observe the other persons behavior &#8211; we create internal representations of their actions, sensations and emotions within ourselves, as if we are the ones that are moving, sensing and feeling.</p>
